Keith Oglesby Memorial Scholarship

One of the significant accomplishments of our club has been to start the Keith Oglesby Memorial Scholarship.  It is awarded annually, to a prospective FSU student from the Upper South Carolina region.. Keith Oglesby, as many of you know, was an FSU Alumnus and long time club member who passed away. He was Postmaster at the Orchard Park Post Office, which has since been named after him.

2006 Keith Oglesby Scholarship Awarded

This year’s winner of the Keith Oglesby Memorial Scholarship is Daniel Watson of Six Mile.  Daniel is a graduate of Daniel High School .  At FSU, he intends to get his degree in creative writing.  In her letter of recommendation, Daniel’s creative writing teacher describes him as the “most prolific” writer in her class.  Additionally, she says his “creativity is only one small facet of his tremendous intelligence, diligence, and dedication to task.

In his essay to us, Daniel says that he has known that he would attend Florida State since he was in eighth grade.  One of the things that attracted him to FSU was the circus.  Over the years he has taught himself to ride a unicycle, walk on stilts, ride a rolla-bolla, and do other activities associated with the circus.  He definitely plans to become a member of this group.

2005 Keith Oglesby Scholarship Awarded

Kaleigh Ann Merritt of Greenville was awarded the annual Keith Oglesby Scholarship for an incoming freshman from the Upstate attending FSU.  She is a graduate with high honors of   J. L. Mann High School and the Fine Arts Center of Greenville County.  Daughter of FSU alum Robert S. and Valerie S. Dannals of Greenville , Kaleigh began her days as a Seminole in June for the summer semester.  She entered the College of Human Science majoring in Exercise Sciences emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy. Kaleigh is also the recipient of the South Carolina Coaches Association for Women’s Sports scholarship. We are delighted to have a new South Carolina Seminole and will be supporting Kaleigh with “care packages” throughout the year.

2004 Keith Oglesby Scholarship Awarded

Congratulations to LaNise Hagan of Gaffney High School (shown with David Enzor, Club President 2002-04).  She is this year's recipient of the $1000 club scholarship. LaNise has been accepted into the Honors Program at FSU and will be pursuing a double-major in Accounting and Multi-National Business this fall.

2003 Keith Oglesby Scholarship Awarded

Congratulations to Rachel Anne Kaminski, the recipient of this year's scholarship. She graduated from Riverside High School and lives in Greer, South Carolina.  Rachel plans to attend FSU in September with a course of study in Apparel Design.  She stated that she fell in love with FSU at first sight and knew that Florida State was the only place for her.  Rachel and her family were at the June 19th meeting for the presentation and the club enjoyed the opportunity to meet everyone in her family.

This year's selection committee included Chris Dafoe, Jackie Oglesby and Andrew Watkins.

2002 Keith Oglesby Scholarship Awarded

This year we awarded our 2nd annual $1,000 Keith Oglesby Memorial Scholarship to Matthew Bowser of Pickens High School. Matthew is a lifelong, diehard Seminole fan who was actually born in Florida, but moved into the SC Upstate when he was 4. He plans to major and do research in Physics. He looked at Clemson and USC but didn’t consider their physics programs and faculty in the same class as FSU’s. Congratulations to Matthew.

This year’s Scholarship Committee was Chris Dafoe, David Enzor and Jackie Oglesby.
